To stimulate the U.S. economy through job creation and capital, the United States is offering foreign investors a visa that can lead to permanent residency and ultimately citizenship in return for a minimum investment of US-Dollars $500,000 in a new commercial enterprise.
The purpose of the EB-5 visa is to create or preserve at least 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers excluding the investor and their immediate family.
The EB-5 visa is mirrored in Europe by new residency/citizenship by investment programs recently launched by the governments of Malta ("Individual Investor Program (IIP)"), Cyprus ("Cyprus Citizenship by Investment"), Spain ("Spanish Golden Visa") and Portugal ("Portugal Golden Residence Permit") to boost their national economies.
Canada is also offering several immigration by investment options (see: "Canada programs").
